China is well known for its rich culture, Children Chinese songs also with its own characters can show you this point well. To be honest, amount of children songs has reached 20,even more, so which one of them can be chosen to introduce—It’s a bit difficult. At last, I decide to introduce you (Two tigers).
The reason why I introduce this song is that, when I was a little girl, mom often plays this song. It took part in my childhood life and played an important role. In other words, It is my illuminative music.
Melody of the song dates back to the 17th century from Europe. However, who composed the lyrics? No one knows Somebody puts forward their ideas, but until now they haven’t been confirmed. The first time appeared the song when it was referred in a book, which came out in the period of the Republic of China.
Owing to its simple but lively melody, it was even accepted as the rhythm for the national anthem of the Republic of China. We can draw a conclusion that, sometimes even a children song can have an effect on the politics.
What makes this song look like a little different from others is that, it had an interesting history about our national hero Zheng Chenggong. When our hero Zheng Chenggong entered into the Tai Wan island, he has taken two tigers with himself. Native ordinary people since before have not previously seen tigers, when seeing them waling in the street, people felt surprised and strange.
A few people even recognized tigers as cats in big size. However, they found that, the tigers can bite, will hurt the people, and many people were injured by them. As a result, other onlookers picked up sticks to control the tigers and hit them. At the same time, soldiers were searching for the two tigers, and the tigers, badly injured, losing their tail and ears, were found in the street Soldiers brought them to report their mission.
Having seen the injured tigers, Zheng Chenggong felt so surprised that he asked his soldiers :”What happened to my tigers? Why they were injured so badly? Who did it?”Soldiers reported to their leader what they have seen and experienced in the street. After hearing that, Zheng Chenggong wrote a children’s folk based on his disabled tigers:
Two tigers ,
Two tigers,
Run fast,
Run fast.
One doesn’t have ears,
Another doesn’t have tail,
How strange!
How strange!
Since then the children’s folk has spread widely in folk, and the children song adapted from the folk passed on generation by generation.
The versions of the lyrics are different. And I will show you two versions:
(The first one:)
Are you sleeping?
Are you sleeping?
Brother John,
Brother John?
Morning bells are ringing,
Morning bells are ringing.
Ding, dang, dong.
Ding, dang, dong.
(The second one was simply translated from Chinese to English:)
Two tigers ,
Two tigers,
Run fast,
Run fast.
One doesn’t have ears,
Another doesn’t have tail,
How strange!
How strange!
