Learn More Things About Chinese Old Music

Chinese old music has a long history in China. It refers to people use traditional Chinese instruments to solo and ensemble. From the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period, the popular folk music is mostly made by blooming, blowing Yu, drums and playing piano.

At the same time, there is emerging two famous musicians Juan and Kuang and two famous piano songs"mountain" and "water" . According to the characteristics of Chinese folk music can be classified into six categories: old songs, song and dance music, rap music, opera music, national instrumental music, comprehensive music and so on.

Each kind of music has a variety of theme, form and rhythm. The practicality of national folk music makes a lot of instrumental music for different occasions.

1.Folk Songs

It can be divided into labor chant, minor tunes, long songs and multi-part songs. Although they all belong to folk songs, they can also reflect on a different region, ethnic and styles. People always sing folk songs when working in the field and expressing their feelings. Most folk songs are improvisation by farmers.

Traditional folk music can be showed in festivals, people meet the gods and other customs, as well as ceremonies, religious rituals together.

2.Rap music

Chinese rap music is not the same meaning as the western music. It is called “QuYi” in Chinese. It is a unique art form from the long-term development of folk oral literature and singing art.So far, there have been about 400 kinds of in the Chinese folk songs of all Chinese ethnic groups. In the history of Chinese art, rap art has been attributed to the " hundred opera"in Song Dynasty, it is performed in the Waghe, Gou Lan (both Song Dynasty folk opera venue).

After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, people give a stable name, collectively referred to as "QuYi" to rap music and it enters the theater to perform.

3.Opera Music

Opera is a dramatic art that the actor use singing, reading, doing, playing and other artistic means, dress up the characters to perform a story about love, family and courage. Opera music is regarded as a performing arts. It uses "spoken rap"to describe the story, shape the characters, express their thoughts and feelings and reflect the social life.

Opera music is not always played by the actors as a fixed role ,the actors still dress as different roles, it is called "one man with multi-role" art style. Content in opera music is mostly short and thin, so performers are able to create their own scripts. Peking Opera is a special make-up method with Chinese cultural characteristics. Because each historical figure or a certain type of character has a rough spectrum, it is called "Facebook".

4.National Instrumental Music

As far as two thousand years of the Zhou Dynasty, there are more than 70 kinds of instruments. From now the often-used instruments have reached more than 200 kinds. According to its playing method and function, national instrumental music can be divided into wind blowing instruments, stung instruments and percussion instruments.

These instruments can be both solo and be combined into various forms and bands for ensemble. The solo music of various instruments is an important part of the national instrumental music.
